Organizing Hair Clips

What this is:  An organizing system for hair clips

How it works: You tie a ribbon over the door of a cabinet, I chose the under the sink cabinet in my kids' bathroom. And then you simply attach the clips on to the ribbon, making it easy to see and find the ones you need while getting ready in the morning.
A few years ago I got this wonderful idea from the internet for organizing hair clips for my daughters, and i can say I have never had to hunt for or clean up their clips ever since.

Managing hair elastics

My daughters had a hundred elastics and yet when we needed those two yellow flower ones we could never find them both together without taking the whole box out on the counter. We have recently found this incredible idea of storing them on a carabiner.

Now if you are like me, you probably don't know what thing is called carabiner, but you have probably seen and used one before.  I did not know the technical name for these things either, but thanks to wikipedia I do now.

carabiner (/kærəˈbnər/) or karabiner is a metal loop with a spring-loaded gate[1] used to quickly and reversibly connect components in safety-critical systems.

What in the world could be more critical than a hair elastic when you need one, so perfect gear I figure.

I found these at the dollar store and this is what the elastics look like now.

We have two separate sets one for plain and one with embellishments.

The small clear elastics go in a zip lock baggie and the whole lot of them together go into this drawer labelled - what else - elastics!!

One mess tamed, many more to go.

Birthday Party Planning Checklist

What this is: Here is a simple Birthday party planning checklist, a lot of this stuff is for parties at a party place and assuming that you would be doing the decorations, you could remove those sections if you are hiring someone else to decorate, or if it is at your own home.

How I use it :
  • I put the printed version on the fridge and get great satisfaction out of crossing things out as I get them done
  • I find it especially handy in delegating tasks to the others and then i can just check on them.

Basic weekly meal planner

What this is: Here is the first template, in the link below. You can print the page and have two weeks worth of menu on your fridge. I eventually want to start posting filled up weekly meal plans so we can start cutting time on the eternal - aaj raat ke khane mein kya banayen - question. I have changed my personal template to a more generic one. i have a column for packed lunch in mine coz my older one goes to school for only a couple of hours so i need a lil packed snack/lunch for her and then she comes home for a real sit down lunch with us.

How I use it:

  • I Print this page and then sit down and fill it up myself, but perhaps you would like to ask your family what they would like to eat, or have a rule of making one dish of every person's choice in the week and force them to try something new at least one day or something. Whatever works for you.
  • I make mine on a Thursday or a Friday and then build my grocery list from my menu so I only buy what I am going to cook.
  • I then shop on the weekend and do any prep that can be done ahead so I am ready for Monday.
  • I always leave a couple of spots open for leftovers and dining out.

The Problems: My biggest problem with having the menu on the fridge is that my husband magically happens to have dinner meetings on days it is karela on the schedule. He swears he is not doing it on purpose but... :)
